Friends often refer to me as the June Cleaver of my time.
No, I do not wear pearls running the vacuum. However, I do occasionally wear my tiara when doing the ironing. And if you know me, you know I am so not kidding. Really, I am Mrs. Cleaver more in philosophy.
Times are changing. Changing rapidly. Most families are so busy now it seems they rarely all sit down to eat a meal together. Change is always good, but not at the expense of relationships. At least 4 nights a week, my family sits down. Together. No exception.
What do I mean by this? Sitting around the kitchen table is how the family should stay connected. The kitchen table is not the place to collect the weeks mail. The kitchen table is not a place for all the kids school work when you have no other place designated. It is not a storage place for dishes that do not fit in the cabinets. I have seen it all, believe me.
The kitchen is the central gathering place in most homes. Whether it is just the family or you having a party, friends gather in the kitchen around the good food and good friends. It is a comfortable, safe room in the house. Keeping it clean and clear from all clutter (other than what is used in the kitchen) will keep that feeling of calm.
The kitchen is not a “catch all” room. I have the same philosophy of the master bedroom. Your bedroom should be decorated, picked up from anything that does not belong there (NO TOYS!) and a very calm place in your home for you and your love to simply be.
The kitchen table should only have a nice decoration on it. Occasionally a wild child on summer vacation.
